It appears as though Toronto Maple Leafs enforcer Ryan Reaves is already trying to make amends after a devastating hit he delivered to Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse on Saturday night.

According to a report from National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman, it sounds like Reaves did his best to immediately apologize to Nurse following the incident that occurred early in the second period of Saturday night's game between the aforementioned Oilers and Maple Leafs. Friedman revealed on Sunday that Reaves quickly headed "towards the Edmonton room" in order to give Nurse a face to face apology following his brutal hit, although whether or not he was successful in getting to Nurse remains unclear at this time.

Nurse was likely being tended to by members of the Oilers medical staff and there's no way of knowing, at least not yet, if Reaves even made it to Nurse of if Nurse was in any kind of condition to even receive the apology. Not to mention the fact that there's always the possibility that Nurse simply wasn't interested in hearing it so soon after being rocked by Reaves with a high hit to the head.

The hit not only caught Nurse up high but it caused him to fall awkwardly on the ice, smacking his head against the ice on his way down. That in turn caused Nurse to suffer damage to his face and he was also clearly rocked on the play, with Nurse appearing to be barely conscious in the moments that follow the devastating hit.

Whether or not Nurse has or will accept Reaves' apology remains to be seen, but regardless the NHL's Department of Player Safety made their feelings on the matter clear when they handed Reaves a massive suspension on Sunday evening.

These two teams will meet again for their second and final regular season matchup of the season in February.
