Ryan O'Reilly snubs the Leafs on Day 1 of Free Agency.

It sounds like the day is starting off on the wrong foot for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who are quickly learning that some of the players they were hoping to have back next season will need to be replaced.

First we heard that veteran defenseman Luke Schenn had snubbed the Leafs today, this in spite of numerous reports indicating that the two sides had tried to work out a deal, and now it would appear that the Leafs are set to lose a forward as well.

The latest comes to us courtesy of National Hockey League insider Pierre LeBrun who is reporting on Monday morning that veteran forward Ryan O'Reilly has made a similar decision. According to LeBrun, O'Reilly will be heading to the open market as a free agent when it opens up later today at noon.

Interestingly enough in the case of Schenn it sounds like it was a major offer from another team that lured the defenseman away from the Leafs, whereas O'Reilly merely seems interested in listening to what is out there for him.

Much like in the case of Schenn, you can hardly blame O'Reilly for making the decision he has made today. This will likely be one of the final contracts that O'Reilly will sign during his NHL career, and you can hardly blame anyone in that position for trying to maximize the value they can get on their next contract.
