Ryan O'Reilly in danger of being traded once again.

Ryan O'Reilly once again the subject of trade chatter after a poor start to the season for Nashville.

In spite of the fact that he is among the most well respected veterans in the entire National Hockey League, long time NHL forward Ryan O'Reilly has often found himself the topic of trade chatter throughout his career.

It would seem that the prospect of an O'Reilly trade is once again looming with a recent report from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman confirming that not only are teams calling about the possibility of acquiring O'Reilly but that the Predators are also listening to those inquiries. Now to be clear the Predators are not merely trying to get rid of O'Reilly, but instead sound like a team that would be seeking a significant return for their asset in a trade.

"They are going to at least consider it under 2 conditions," revealed Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada. "Number one the offer has got to be something that really excites them, it really has to be a great offer, and number two it has to be something that O'Reilly would agree to."

It sounds like, in spite of the fact that his name is once again coming up in trade chatter, that the Predators will give O'Reilly a great deal of leeway in any potential trade talks and seek the player's approval before moving him despite having no obligations to do so.

"He signed a 4 year deal and there was no protection in there," said Friedman. "No trade or no movement clause or anything like that... but he is being treated as if he has a no move clause."

In spite of his team's struggles this season O'Reilly has continued to produce offensively for the Predators with 12 goals and 13 assists for a total of 25 points in just 38 games. Last season he had 26 goals and 43 assists for a total of 69 points over a full 82 game season with the Predators.

O'Reilly is just in the second year of a four year deal that carries an average annual value and cap hit of $4.5 million so any team acquiring him will have to be able to fit him under their cap for this season as well as two more seasons beyond that.

It sounds like there is no rush to move O'Reilly here, but playoff bound teams will no doubt be increasing the pressure as we draw closer and closer to the trade deadline.
