This is wild if it’s true! What do you make of it?

Last week, reports emerged that Pierre-Luc Dubois’ agent Pat Brisson had informed the Winnipeg Jets about his client’s attentions as the forward is reportedly not even inclined to sign an extension, not even a one-year bridge deal this offseason. This quickly led to trade rumours as Dubois has already been linked to the Montreal Canadiens, Colorado Avalanche, Boston Bruins, Minnesota Wild and New York Rangers.
Then, there was a rumour, out of Montreal by Arpon Basu and Marc-Antoine Godin of The Athletic that Dubois is seeking a contract in the $9M AAV range.
There is a feeling across the league that the reports and chatter have scared off some interested teams that could have look to move some pieces around to accommodate Dubois. But with the hefty price tag, some clubs might have stepped out of the sweepstakes.
This is where conspiracy theories come out. One French reporter in Montreal wonders, along with several fans, if the Canadiens did not just leak the rumour out to make sure it would get to rival teams and prevent other teams from getting into the derby. He tweeted in French:
“Is it possible that Pierre-Luc Dubois’ requests for $ 9,000,000 / season is intentionally leaked information to discourage certain clubs from trying to acquire him if his intention is really to sign with the Habs? It would be brilliant.”
It’s pure speculation, but it sure got the conspiracy minds going!
