Rod Brind'Amour calls out 'morons' in the media on Monday.

Rod Brind'Amour did not hold back when asked about a recent controversy surrounding his team.

Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour was not in the mood to mess around on Monday, snapping at reporters when a recent controversy surrounding his team was brought to the forefront.

Last week the Hurricanes were the topic of some controversy after a fight between Hurricanes defenseman Jalen Chatfield and Washington Capitals forward Connor McMichael ended with a takedown. It was Chatfield who had slammed McMichael to the ice during the exchange and it was a move that left some feeling what he had done had crossed the lines of what is and is not permissible during the mutual combat that is a hockey fight.

Here's a look at the replay:

While there was a ton of discussion in the media last week about whether or not this should constitute a dirty play, when Brind'Amour was asked about the incident he chastised the media for their coverage of the incident.

"The media was the one who made drama out of it and they're morons, typically," said Brind'Amour without a care in the world regarding whether or not any media members might take offense.

Brind'Amour wasn't done there however and continued to chastise the media, calling into question just how closely some members of the media follow the sport of hockey.

"If you're going to say what happened at the end was anything more than what I've seen a thousand times before, you don't know what you're talking about," said Brind'Amour. "Go look at the game exactly before. The Boston-Detroit game. Two really good heavyweights going at it and watch how that fight ends. It's a takedown, I'm sorry. Quit making something out of what isn't, because that's not a fair characterization of our player and that's what bothers me on the whole thing. Do your homework."

It was a scathing response from the Hurricanes head coach but one he clearly felt he needed to deliver after all of the controversy surrounding his player last week.

Do you agree with Brind'Amour's takes? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
