The Vegas Golden Knights will not have goaltender Robin Lehner at their disposal this season, and as of the time of this writing there have been no reports regarding a reason why.

Earlier this week the Vegas Golden Knights announced that Lehner would not be a part of their team this season after the veteran goaltender failed to report to training camp.

Now for the first time since that announcement, Lehner himself is speaking out about his rather unique situation, although he didn't really clear anything when it comes to the mysterious reasons behind his absence. In fact it seemed as though, based on Lehner's wording, that he perhaps wasn't even allowed to discuss the details behind his absence.

"All I can say at this time is everyone knows why I couldn’t be there. I am waiting calmly for things to be sorted out," said Lehner as per Sin Bin Vegas.

Lehner has battled mental health issues throughout his career in the National Hockey League and the first concerns when it comes to the veteran netminder should surround his long-term health, mental health, and well being.

Knee and hip injuries have also plagued Lehner throughout his career in the NHL.

That being said it is understandable for fans to be disappointed given that Lehner has historically been such an integral part of the Golden Knights organization and roster. Lehner last played during the 2021-22 NHL season, recording a 2.83 goals against average and a .907 save percentage over 44 regular season games.

It is unclear at this time what this means for Lehner's contract status or the Golden Knights' salary cap situation, with no official announcement coming from the NHL, NHLPA or the Golden Knights organization as of yet.
