Rick Tocchet shares official update on Filip Chytil.
Rick Tocchet shares an update on Filip Chytil after he left Saturday's game with what looked like a concussion.
There has understandably been a lot of concern surrounding the health and status of Vancouver Canucks forward Filip Chytil following a scary looking injury he suffered during Saturday night's game against the Chicago Blackhawks, and now there is finally an official update on the former first round pick.
On Sunday, Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet spoke to the media and admitted that he had spoke to Chytil since the injury had occurred.
"I talked to him a little bit," said Tocchet. "He felt ok, nothing great."
One of the biggest fears regarding Chytil's most recent injury was the possibility that he had suffered another concussion, and unfortunately Tocchet would confirm that Chytil is in fact going through the National Hockey League's concussion protocol following last night's hit from Blackhawks forward Jason Dickinson.
"Yes," confirmed Tocchet. "He's had a few in the past and we'll see how this turns out."
Although this is obviously not good news for Chytil who has a serious history of concussions, Tocchet appeared to be feeling pretty positive about the forward's status all things considered.
"Yeah," said Tocchet when asked if he was feeling more positive than negative about the injury. "Sometimes these things can rapidly turn good."
There has been some controversy over the fact that Dickinson was not penalized on the play and that the Department of Player Safety has opted not to discipline Dickinson for the hit, but when Tocchet was asked to share his thoughts on the matter he cut his answer short.
"You know what I just think... I have faith that those guys know what they are doing up there," said Tocchet cutting himself off mid sentence.
