After Vancouver president Jim Rutherford’s 45-minute press conference on Monday, everyone expects a coaching change to take place in the near future.
As Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman pointed out in his latest 32 Thoughts column, Canucks management appeared to have always picked Bruce Boudreau’s replacement in long time Rutherford ally and former Pittsburgh Penguins assistant coach Rick Tocchet.
It happens that Tocchet was on the panel on TNT on Wednesday, where he usually is each week, and even his co-hosts were surprised to still see him there.
When asked about the possible of taking over for Boudreau in Vancouver, Tocchet addressed the rumours and stated that he “hasn’t signed any contract,” and that he’s had talked with Jim Rutherford, but they’ve talked for years.
Friedman believes the Canucks do not want to fire Boudreau on the road, they play in Vancouver later tonight. Could this be Boudreau’s last game?
Maybe this means it is also Tocchet’s last time on the TNT panel…
