Reports of another trade between Flyers and Blue Jackets today

I think GM Daniel Briere has found a new buddy in Columbus!

The Philadelphia Flyers absolutely shook up the hockey world earlier this week when they announced a gigantic three team trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Los Angeles Kings that saw them effectively dump defenseman Ivan Provorov for a quality package of players and picks.

And then, before the Provorov trade was even officially confirmed, there were reports that goaltender Carter Hart is on the move too. While the Hart trade has yet to be consummated, there's belief amongst the NHL's most trusted insiders that Hart will indeed be dealt this offseason at some point. So... if you're keeping score at home that's the Flyers essentially giving up on their #1 blueliner and their #1 goaltender. So... what gives?

Well clearly it's looking like a full scale rebuild under new GM Daniel Briere and, honestly, it's kind of refreshing. If you're going to do a job, do it right. And Briere seems to have no problem doing the dirty work. So, who's next?

NHL insider Pierre LeBrun reports that veteran forward Travis Konecny is most likely to be moved alongside Hart later this offseason.

From LeBrun's latest column for The Athletic:

Danny Briere’s first significant move as Flyers GM was a pretty impressive one, and he’s far from done.

Yes, he’s listening on Carter Hart, so we’ll see where that goes. But I think it’s just generally pretty evident Briere is approaching his job with an open mind and will consider almost anything that advances the program longer-term.

So, for example, my understanding is the Flyers would listen on Travis Konecny if a team really stepped up. I don’t believe there’s been anything thrown at the first-time GM yet on that front. But from what I’m hearing from league sources, I’m confident in saying that the Flyers will get a least one or two serious offers this summer on Konecny, who has two more years on his deal. It’ll be enough to make them think about it.

The rebuild is on in Philadelphia.

The 26 year old Konecny had a career high 31 goals and 61 points in just 60 games with the Flyers this past season.

And if that weren't enough, Anthony DiMarco of The Fourth Period is also reporting that the Flyers have been discussing a potential deal involving veteran forward Kevin Hayes and that the trade could go down as early as today.

More from The Fourth Period:

Flyers GM Danny Briere has been actively engaged in separate trade discussions involving centre Kevin Hayes and goaltender Carter Hart.

The Flyers have had talks with multiple teams about Hayes going back to the regular-season and it appears discussions with the Blue Jackets are picking up once again.

As TFP’s Anthony Di Marco reported on Thursday, the Flyers will likely need to retain a portion of Hayes’ contract in order to facilitate a move with Columbus if the two sides can agree to terms.

Talks between Philadelphia and Columbus regarding Hayes took a backseat after discussions involving Provorov took centre stage. The two teams are now set to reengage.

Hayes is still due $7.1 million per season for the next three years. Yikes...
