This just in, according to a report from NHL insider Darren Dreger the Vegas Golden Knights are closing in on a deal for former Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick from the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Check it out:
More to come on this developing story.
Quick was acquired by the Blue Jackets from the Kings on Tuesday evening in a deal that sent Vladislav Gavrikov and Joonas Korpisalo to the Kings. The Kings essentially dumped a franchise icon in Quick, someone who has been the backbone of the franchise through its absolute best years. The best goaltender in franchise history and, frankly, it's not even close. There's an argument to be made that he might be the most accomplished player history, goaltender or otherwise, in Kings history.
Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekkalainen stated following the deal that he would try to "do right" by Quick and send him to a Stanley Cup contender, which this deal confirms.
Quick is in year 10 of a crazy 10 year contract that somehow actually worked out to be a bargain for the Kings. Quick has been a stellar and, at times, brilliant netminder for the Kings for over a decade now and he only cost them $5.8 million against the salary cap. He's a two time Stanley Cup winner and a Conn Smythe Trophy winner and he's been with the team his entire career.
Now though... now he's headed to one of the Kings' biggest rivals.
Gonna need a VGK vs LAK playoff series ASAP!
