Boston Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark won his first career Vezina Trophy at the NHL Awards earlier this week for his role in helping the team win a record 65 regular season games.
He boasted a near pristine record of 40-6-1 with a 1.89 goals against average, .938 save percentage along with two shutouts. Oh, and there was also the matter of his having become the first goalie in the near century-long history of the Bruins to score a goal.
But his name has been floated in trade rumors, and he seems to know that it's a possibility that he could be moved out of New England. That's where new Pittsburgh Penguins president of hockey operations Kyle Dubas could swoop in.
According to Andrew Fillipponi of Pittsburgh's 93.7 The Fan, the Penguins have had discussions with the Bruins regarding an acquisition of Ullmark:
Dubas has also been said to be interested in Sharks goaltender Kaapo Kähkönen.
Does this mean that the end is coming in Pittsburgh for one of Tristan Jarry or Casey DeSmith? Furthermore, would this mean that the Bruins are suddenly going to roll with Jeremy Swayman as their number one goaltender?
It's going to be a long offseason for the Bruins, who are already set to likely lose the likes of Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, Tyler Bertuzzi and Dmitri Orlov. Throw in the potential loss of the Vezina Trophy winning Ullmark (to an Eastern Conference rival, no less), and this could be a very difficult summer for hockey fans in New England who were hoping to see the 65 win Bruins lift the Cup this year.
