The Montreal Canadiens drafting Logan Mallioux in 2021 came with controversy after it was revealed that he had been charged and fined in Sweden for having recorded and shared a video of an 18 year old woman performing oral sex on him without her consent.
Mallioux even had requested that he not be selected in 2021 so that he could focus on his personal growth; this didn't stop former Habs general manager Marc Bergevin from selecting him anyway. The move proved extremely controversial, with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressing his disappointment while Isabelle Charest, Quebec's Minister for the Status of Women, also expressed surprise and disappointment.
He'd later be suspended due to his actions by the OHL in late 2021 before being eventually reinstated. After being signed by the Habs to a three-year entry level contract, team owner Geoff Molson described Mailloux as "a good kid who made a big mistake and we’re going to help him along and we’ll see how it all turns out."
And now, based on one report from a notable analyst, Mailloux is getting the green light to suit up for the Habs. According to TVA Sports Renaud Lavoi, the NHL has approved his contract and he'll be eligible to play:
"Hearing from multiple sources that Logan Mailloux received the green light from the NHL to play for the @CanadiensMTL when his time will come. So this is the end of all speculations regarding his future."
Last year while playing with the London Knights, he tallied 25 goals and 28 assists for 77 points in 53 games played.
