Referee Tim Peel roasts Nazem Kadri after injury in Game 3.

Wow.

Former National Hockey League referee Tim Peel saw his career come to an end in controversy, but if the former NHL official has learned anything from his now infamous hot mic incident it would appear that it has been very little.

On Saturday night the Edmonton Oilers and the Colorado Avalanche faced off for Game 3 of the Western Conference Final, and it was barely a minute into the game that things would turn very ugly. After just over a minute had expired on the game clock, Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane would crosscheck Colorado Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri from behind and drive him into the boards in the process.

The blow was delivered with enough force that it sent Kadri crashing hard into the boards and once he fell to the ice he would remain there for several minutes before eventually skating off under his own power. As for Kane, the Oilers forward immediately protested and tried to plead his innocence, but the NHL officials on the ice weren't buying it. Kane was immediately awarded a major penalty, a call that would be upheld on the ice after review by the officials.

Perhaps the most shocking moment of this incident however came when former NHL referee Tim Peel decided to make his presence known and chimed in with his two cents. In a stunning display of callousness from a former NHL official, Peel appeared to celebrate the Kadri injury by simply tweeting out the word "KARMA" all in capital letters.

Let's be clear about one thing though. While it was shocking to see a former NHL referee express this opinion, he is far from the only person who reacted the way he did after Kadri was injured on Saturday night. The reality is that Kadri has himself routinely crossed the line on the ice, especially come playoff time, and has even received several harsh suspensions in the past for doing so.

For that reason it also wasn't shocking to see that there was definitely a segment of the NHL fan base that echoed the sentiment that was expressed by Peel on Saturday night.

Following the negative backlash he received for the Tweet, Peel has deleted his comment. Unfortunately for the former NHL official, his comments about Kadri and his injury had already been widely shared at that point.
