Red Wings recall Zadina, McIlrath

The Detroit Red Wings have announced that two players have been called up from Grand Rapids of the AHL. Forward Filip Zadina and defenseman Dylan McIlrath will join the NHL roster immediately.

Both Zadina and McIlrath were assigned to Grand Rapids just yesterday. According to reporter Helene St. James, that was simply a paper move. 

Zadina, a former 6^th overall draft pick, has played seven games with the Red Wings this season. He’s recorded three assists and is a minus-2 while spending most of his time on the third line. McIlrath has played in 16 games in Detroit in 2019-20 without recording a point. That’s not surprising as the 27-year-old is more known for his fighting ability than his offensive prowess.

In the meantime, Dylan Larkin is doubtful for tonight’s game against the Winnipeg Jets, with coach Jeff Blashill saying he’s “not feeling great.” Sounds like he battling a flu-like illness and shouldn’t be on the sidelines too long. Andreas Athanasiou is also not expected to play tonight after missing Detroit’s previous game on Tuesday with an undisclosed illness. Bashill says the team will go with 11 forwards and seven defenseman if needed.

Goaltender Jimmy Howard, who is dealing with a groin injury, will not be ready to go until this weekend.
