There’s been very little luck in Detroit when it comes to the Red Wings, especially with the latest suspension to veteran David Perron and captain Dylan Larkin being placed on the team’s injured reserve after being knocked unconscious when he was cross-checked in the back of the head and neck by Ottawa Senators’ Mathieu Joseph. General manager Steve Yzerman is therefore hoping for more fortune on the trade market as David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period reports that the Red Wings have been involved in trade discussions of late.

Pagnotta points to young forward Jonatan Berggren, who is currently playing with Detroit’s AHL affiliate the Grand Rapids Griffins, as he could be used as a chip. The reporter explains how, according to his many sources, Berggren’s been brought up in trade talks with multiple teams over the last couple of weeks.

Berggren was called up for Monday night’s game against the Dallas Stars and recorded a goal in over eight minutes of ice time. Way to bring his trade value up!

We however do not know which clubs could be involved in trade talks with the Red Wings though there have been speculation that they were discussing at some point with the Montreal Canadiens.

According to Cap Friendly, Detroit has just over $4.378 million in salary cap and could play around with it when it comes to making a splash ahead of the March, 8 trade deadline.

As for Berggren, he is currently playing the final year of a three-year, $2.775 million contract. He registered 15 goals and 13 assists for 28 points in 67 games with the Wings last season.

In 16 games in the AHL this year Berggren has put up five goals and 10 assists for 15 points. In six game with the Wings, he has two goals and an assist. Could he scoring for another NHL team this season?
