Red Wings get one step closer to acquire top trade target ahead of deadline!

We better watch out for this one:

Recent reports have kept emerging on how Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Seth Jones would likely waive his no-movement clause to play for a contender this spring, and the Detroit Red Wings might just fit the bill.

According to Adam Proteau of the Hockey News, the Wings could look into Jones, after clearing out cap space by trading goaltender Ville Husso to the Anaheim Ducks for future considerations.

It’s also be rumour how Detroit looked into acquiring blue liner Jacob Trouba last off-season, missed out earlier this season when he was traded to the Anaheim Ducks.

“Getting someone, such as Chicago’s Seth Jones and his $9.5-million cap hit, would make a lot of sense for the Wings if they can fit him in for the long term,” writes Proteau.

Ahead of Wednesday night’s action, Detroit sat in fourth place of the Atlantic division with 66 points, good enough for the first Wild card spot for the playoffs in the Eastern Conference.

Jones, who voiced his frustrations after the Blackhawks’ fourth straight loss last night, could agree to waive his no-movement clause to join the Red Wings ahead of the March 7 deadline.

Jones, who has put up seven goals and 20 assists for 27 points in 41 games this season, signed an eight-year, $76 million deal in Chicago ahead of the 2021-22 season. He has recently spoken openly about the possibility of a trade and Detroit could be ready to jump into the sweepstakes.
