The Detroit Red Wings have announced a pair of significant roster moves to kick off the weekend.

Let's begin with the bad news.

The Red Wings have announced that goaltender Alex Lyon will be headed to injured reserve, however the silver lining here is that Lyon's stint on IR will be retroactive until December 16th which means he will be eligible to return sooner rather than later.

On the more positive side of things, the Red Wings have also announced that rookie defenseman Simon Edvinsson has been called up to the main roster.

Edvinsson is an eagerly anticipated prospect in the Red Wings system as their former first round pick (6th overall) at the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Edvinsson has been playing for the Grand Rapids Griffins this season, scoring 6 goals and adding 10 assists for 16 points in 25 games, and many have been wondering when we might see Edvinsson make the jump to the NHL.

No official word yet on when we might get to see Edvinsson in action, but the 20 year old Swede is eligible to play in Saturday night's game against the New Jersey Devils.
