The Detroit Red Wings got back in business on Sunday afternoon, building up a 4-0 lead before eventually hanging on for a 5-3 triumph at Little Caesars Arena over the visiting Boston Bruins. While most fans and pundits predicted prior to this season starting that the Bruins would be taking a significant step backwards, the Bruins are currently threatening to break the NHL's regular season victory total of 62 that was set in 1996 by the Red Wings and 2019 by the Tampa Bay Lightning.
There would be no win for the Bruins on Sunday, however. Timely goal scoring and key saves from goaltender Ville Husso earned Detroit a valuable two points in the standings as they aim to keep their faint postseason hopes alive. And thanks to the win, the administrators who run the Red Wings official Twitter feed decided to clap back at a notorious pest who happens to wear the black and yellow of Boston.
Forward Brad Marchand, who is best known for his innate ability to get under the skin of opponents, had a less than flattering review of both Detroit and Edmonton when it was announced earlier in the year that both cities were being considered as possibilities for an upcoming NHL All Star game.
"Guys want to be in spots that are enjoyable to be in," he said. "They want to be in nice cities or warm cities. It's a long season. The game itself is a small portion of that weekend. You want to be able to enjoy it a bit. When everyone else is going on trips and enjoying themselves during the break, you don't want to be stuck in Edmonton when it's minus-30 or in Detroit. You want to be able to enjoy it.
"Edmonton has phenomenal hunting, so I love Edmonton," he would late continue. "And then Detroit is ... you know, suspect."
Keeping his comments in mind, take a look at what Detroit's Twitter feed had to say Sunday after taking down Marchand and the Bruins:
Well played!
