Red Wings announce the latest on Ville Husso

It was just over one month ago now that Detroit Red Wings goaltender made his return to the lineup after having missed several weeks of game play thanks to a lower body injury that he suffered on December 18 against the Anaheim Ducks.

He was tabbed as the starter for Detroit's road game against the Edmonton Oilers on February 13 against the high-powered offense of the Edmonton Oilers, and almost as quickly as the game began, his night was over. He departed immediately after being scored on by Oilers sniper Leon Draisaitl, and has not played since. 

He's recently skated at practice and even taken shots, but doesn't appear to be any closer to getting into game action. However, it sounds as though he's expected to be able to return at some point before the end of the regular season next month. 

Husso is in the second year of a three year, $14.25 million deal that he signed with Detroit following his acquisition in a 2022 trade with the St. Louis Blues.

So far, while his win-loss record is decent, his goals against average of 3.55 (tied for 52nd among all NHL goalies) and save percentage of .892 (tied for 47th among all NHL goalies) are not the kind of numbers that Yerman was envisioning when he made the deal with the Blues nearly two summers ago. 

The Red Wings have since been rolling with the goaltending duo of Alex Lyon and James Reimer, both of whom had been performing well up until Detroit's recent six-game slide.
