There is a growing sense that Patrick Kane might stay put at the trade deadline. The Chicago Blackhawks’ star forward is still expected to meet with team management and his agent to discuss his future with the franchise as his name’s been heard in several trade rumours since the start of the season. Chatter suggested that if Kane’d agree to be moved, the Blackhawks could set a high asking price, starting with a first-round pick.
But it seems to have quiet down with even the reports that Kane will not be traded at all. It started off with Larry Brooks of the New York Post hinting at the fact that the Rangers were taking themselves out of the sweepstakes, stating that Kane was not the right fit for the Blue Shirts.
There seems to be a clear reason why clubs have become reluctant to make a play for Kane. Arthur Staples of The Athletic has revealed that it seems the entire league knows Kane needs hip surgery. The insider states that Kane will be damaged goods unless he undergoes season-ending hip surgery now to be ready for free agency and next season. Staples therefore believes that Kane will not be the center piece of anyone’s trade deadline plans.
For months, Kane has been one of the most coveted pieces available on the market, but now there may be no longer a market for the Blackhawks’ forward anyway…
