Rapper Drake drops massive bet on Oilers to win Stanley Cup
The Toronto native is making it rain! Will his bet pay off?
The hype for the Edmonton Oilers has reached fever pitch in many corners of Canada, who are hoping to see the first Stanley Cup championship won by a Canadian-based squad since 1993. Thanks to Edmonton's journey through the postseason, they're now just four wins away from their first title since 1990 when they were captained by Hall of Famer Mark Messier.
And while he may be loyal to Toronto, Canadian rapper Drake has dropped a massive amount of cash while betting on the Oilers to ultimately emerge victorious over the Florida Panthers in the upcoming Stanley Cup Final. Not only did he bet $500,000 on the NBA's Dallas Mavericks winning the title over the Boston Celtics, but he also bet the same amount for Edmonton to defeat Florida. If he's proven correct, the payout is a cool $1.35 million.
He wrote the following explanation on his Instagram account while sharing a screenshot of the bets he placed:
"Dallas cause I'm a Texan Oilers are self explanatory"
This isn't the first major sports bet that Drake, who has an estimated net worth of $250 million, has placed. He won approximately $2.3 million after betting $1.15 million on the Kansas City Chiefs to win the Super Bowl, while he previously bet $400K and won $1.2 million in 2022 after betting that the opening round matchup between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning would go the distance of seven games.
The Cup Final between the Oilers and Panthers will finally get underway this weekend from Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise. Who will draw first blood in this first-ever postseason matchup between the two clubs?
