The New York Rangers are waving goodbye to their captain in what is quickly turning into a very messy situation.

According to a report from National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman, the Rangers have made it clear on Friday that they are getting rid of Rangers captain Jacob Trouba by any means necessary. Friedman reports that the Rangers have several trades in place for Trouba but the matter is complicated by the fact that Trouba has a partial no trade clause and can potentially block several or all of those moves.

Trouba has already shown a willingness to do so with reports that he blocked a trade to the Detroit Red Wings over the summer.

That being said the Rangers have some options at their disposal as well and it looks like they are prepared to put their captain on waivers if he refuses to accept a trade to one of the teams willing to acquire him.

Additionally Friedman reports that one of the teams with a deal in place appears to be the Columbus Blue Jackets.

This is quickly turning into a very ugly situation in New York and one in which it sounds like the relationship between player and team has reached the point of becoming dysfunctional. You have to believe that the rest of the Rangers lock room will be impacted after seeing the team's captain and leader for the past several years treated and/or handled in this manner by management, but what that impact will be remains to be seen.

Trouba is currently in the 6th year of a 7 year contract that carries an average annual value and salary cap hit of $8 million per season.

Trouba has appeared in 24 games for the Rangers this season and has 6 points, all assists, to his name. He currently boasts a plus minus rating of -3.
