Rangers announce their captains for the 2021 season
Who will wear the “C” for the Blueshirts?
HockeyFeed
New York Rangers head coach David Quinn 'unofficially' announced his leadership group for the 2021 season and, surprise, surprise, the team will once again have no one donning the captain's "C" during the campaign. Instead, Quinn will roll with four alternate captains wearing the "A" and they are:
Mika Zibanejad
Jacob Trouba
Chris Kreider
Artemi Panarin
No real surprises here, right? The only thing I could have seen playing out differently would be to give the "C" to a longtime Rangers veteran like Kreider. C'est la vie...
The Rangers, of course, have been without a captain since trading defenseman Ryan McDonagh to the Tampa Bay Lightning back in 2018. To be fair though, the Rangers' captaincy history is pretty illustrious so if you're not 100% sure on someone it's best to wait a few years. Maybe Kreider, Panarin, Trouba or Zibenajad emerge as the captain next season? Or maybe blue chip prospects like Alexis Lafreniere or Kaappo Kakko step up this season? Look, when you're walking in the shoes of someone like Jaromir Jagr, Brian Leetch or Mark Messier, you better bring some serious leadership. Look for the Rangers' young core to come together over the next season and I wouldn't be surprised if a captain becomes apparent by this time next year.
