Last month, reports emerged that the Rangers trying to move captain Jacob Trouba, causing a lot of drama in New York City. Rumours hinted at a possible blocked trade to the Detroit Red Wings as Trouba owns a 15-team no-trade clause and is working closely with his “aggressive” agent Kurt Overhardt to prevent being moved, especially since he would prefer to stay put for his wife’s current hospital residency.

It has now been said that the Rangers would be almost instantly able to trade Trouba to either the Red Wings, Buffalo Sabres or Anaheim Ducks if the defenseman were to waive his clause, and possibly the San Jose Sharks. That’s probably because deals are in place and would only need the blue liner’s approval to pull the trigger.

Trouba has two years left on his current contract, making $8 million against the cap through the 2025-26 season. Last season he recorded 22 points in 69 games and added another seven points in 16 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

There is a feeling that Trouba will be on the Rangers’ roster for the start of the 2024-25 season, though it remains to be seen how the relationship will be between the captain and management in New York.

Besides attempting to move Trouba and placing veteran forward Barclay Goodrow on waivers, GM Chris Drury acquired Reilly Smith from the Pittsburgh Penguins and signed Sam Carrick as a free agent. For now, no more moves are likely in NYC, unless Trouba waives his clause for one of the aforementioned with whom the Rangers are rumoured to have a deal in place to move their captain.
