Quinton Byfield exposes “sneaky” personal trait of Connor McDavid

The Los Angeles Kings secured a key piece of their forward units, inking center Quinton Byfield to a five-year, $31.5 million contract that keeps him in Hollywood through the 2028-29 NHL season. 

Byfield and the Kings are quite familiar with the rival Edmonton Oilers, whom they have battled the last three consecutive seasons straight in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Unfortunately for the Kings, the Oilers have bested them at all three turns, forcing them into an early offseason. 

But in addition to facing superstar Oilers captain on the ice, Byfield has gotten the chance to know McDavid through working out together in the offseason thanks to the fact that they're represented by the same agency. And Byfield wants hockey fans everywhere to know that underneath McDavid's normally serious outward demeanor, there's a much funnier person waiting to break out once the walls come down. 

"No, it’s true. Connor and I have had the opportunity to work out together during the summers. We're represented by the same agency, so over the years, I got to meet him. He's sneaky really funny once he opens up to you guys," Byfield said.

During the same segment while appearing on the "What Chaos!" podcast, Byfield also revealed a bit of interesting personal information - legendary film director Quentin Tarantino's work played a role in what his parents named him.

"Maybe the story is a little embellished, but I believe that's the gist of it. It's funny because my dad's name is Clinton, and they named me Quinton, and my godfather's name is Linton as well," he explained. "So, I guess I’ll have to keep the trend going in the future."

Last season, Byfield reached career-highs in games played and in points, skating in 80 contests while scoring 20 goals and 35 assists; he also added four assists in the aforementioned five-game postseason series against the Oilers.
