Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes set a new record for speed this season.

It is hard to imagine where the Vancouver Canucks would be right now without the services of captain Quinn Hughes, who consistently shows himself to be one of the most dominant and exciting players in the entire National Hockey League night after night.

The reigning Norris Trophy winner added yet another accolade to his rapidly growing list of accolades over the weekend when he established a new bar for speed on the ice for the 2024-25 NHL regular season. Hughes' accomplishment would unfortunately come during his team's loss to the New York Rangers on Saturday, but despite the Canucks falling short it was another excellent game from Hughes himself.

During the game's second period Hughes would carry the puck all the way down the ice, going from end to end, to create a scoring chance entirely on his own and he would use a huge burst of speed in order to make it happen. As Hughes burned past both his teammates and the Rangers, it looked like he was moving at lightning speed and that has now been confirmed.

According to the NHL's department of public relations, Hughes was clocked at a whopping 24.56 miles per hour as he exploded down the ice on Saturday. That is the fastest a player has moved during a regular season game since the 2021-22 NHL regular season, a pretty impressive feat on the part of Hughes.

former NHLer Denis Gurianov has been clocked at a higher speed since the stat has been tracked, with Gurianov having clocked a speed of 24.6 miles per hour back in 2021.

If you didn't get a chance to witness Hughes' impressive burst of speed yourselves, you can check it out in the short clip below.
