Quinn Hughes completely breaks Matt Rempe's ankles.
Canucks captain Quinn Hughes makes Rangers enforcer Matt Rempe look silly on Saturday.
You gotta feel for New York Rangers enforcer Matt Rempe on this one as he was totally outmatched in a matchup with Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes.
Saturday was a big day and a big game for a New York Rangers team that was not only honoring the soon to be retired Sam Rosen, but was also fighting for their playoff lives with roughly a dozen games remaining in the regular season. Unfortunately for Rosen and the Rangers, things would get off to a bad start thanks to the Norris-Trophy level play that we have come to expect out of Hughes.
It would be the Canucks that would open up the scoring and although it wasn't Hughes himself who would be credited with the goal, that honor would go to Canucks forward Dakota Joshua, there's no doubt about the fact that it was Hughes who made it happen.
During the game's opening period Hughes found himself matched up 1 on 1 with Rempe at the blue line and Hughes wasted little time blowing past a player that is significantly less skilled than he is. This was a total mismatch and the end result was Hughes completely breaking Rempe's ankles, practically taking him out of his skates, as he skated around Rempe at the blue line to create a scoring chance for the Canucks.
Seconds later, Joshua would put it in the back of the net.
Here is another angle of Hughes blowing past Rempe:
You can hardly blame Rempe for getting beat here when you consider just how much of a mismatch this is, much in the way that no one would blame Hughes for losing to Rempe if they dropped the gloves. Great players like Hughes make these kinds of plays a reality, and unfortunately for Matt Rempe he found himself on the wrong end of one today.
