Quenneville “strong candidate” after interview with NHL team.

Joel Quenneville has interviewed with an NHL team and is considered a strong candidate.

Earlier today I brought you a story speculating about a possible return to the National Hockey League for disgraced former Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville, and now an NHL insider has shared many more significant details regarding what is now much more than just a rumor.

The story began several hours ago when veteran ESPN commentator John Buccigross sent out a cryptic tweet that contained no words, but had both a photo of Quenneville himself as well as a second photo of a gaggle of ducks, clearly trying to point to a link between the two without explicitly saying so.

Well it would appear now that NHL insider Frank Seravalli has gone digging into this matter and has come up with some very interesting findings, including confirming that Quenneville has sat down with the Anaheim Ducks for an interview. Seravalli points out that Quenneville and Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek were teammates back in the days of the Hartford Whalers, which could potentially give him an edge when it comes to working with Verbeek.

Additionally Seravalli reports that Quenneville is being viewed as "a strong candidate" for this job which makes sense given his extensive coaching resume, one that includes 3 Stanley Cup championships.

Of course there continues to be a dark cloud that hangs over the head of Quenneville following the Kyle Beach scandal that rocked the Chicago Blackhawks organization, and it remains to be seen if any teams in the NHL will be willing to move past the interview stage and actually hire Quenneville for another job at the highest level of hockey.
