Ever since the Arizona Coyotes moved to the smallest arena in the league at the start of the 2022-23 season, the Arizona State University to play out of the Mullett Arena, everyone’s been waiting to see if they would finally get relocated to a better, stronger market.

While we all know commissioner Gary Bettman refuses to move the Coyotes out of the desert, we were surprised when it was announced that the team allegedly sold out all 41 of their home games at the 4,600-seat facility.

Or did they?

Goalie Karel Vejmelka, who remains signed with the club for two more seasons, revealed how the Coyotes didn’t really managed to sell out all games and how the arena was mostly filled with rival fans, who may have attended the game to see how embarrassing it was for the NHL team.

“I don’t think a single game was sold out this year. It was mostly away fans too. The prices are stupid, $160 for the cheapest seat in a tiny university arena.”

Brutal admission by the player… Not sure Bettman or the Coyotes’ executives will like hearing Vejmelka’s comments on the arena that will continue to host the team for the near future, especially after the failed referendum. Back in May, it was confirmed that residents voted against the Coyotes building a $2.1 entertainment district in Tempe. The team is now working on staying in Arizona and find a new home in its vicinity.

And clearly, it will have to be better than the Mullett Arena, if you ask Vejmelka…
