The name of Edmonton Oilers forward Jesse Puljujarvi has been mentioned several times in trade circles lately, especially when insider Frank Seravalli of Daily Face-Off reported promising conversations between the Oilers and a couple of teams took place regarding Puljujarvi.

Now Seravalli is taking it a step further, suggesting the Oilers could manage to pull a player-for-player trade, by moving Puljujarvi to the Florida Panthers in return for forward Anthony Duclair.

He believes that both players would greatly benefit from a change of scenery Puljujarvi is in the last year of his contract, which holds a $3M cap hit. Duclair also has a $3M cap hit, but his contract ends in the summer of 2024.

The only issue when it comes to Duclair, who is coming off of a 31-goal, 27-assist year with the Panthers through 74 games, is that he has yet to play this season. He is recovering from surgery to repair an Achilles tendon injury back in July. But he surely could boost the Oilers’ bottom-six.

On top of that, the Panthers need to clear up some cap space and have been unable to work Duclair into their lineup this season. As he becomes the odd-man out, the Oilers could definitely take opportunity of this and make a move with Florida.

Not just if the Panthers would agree to a one-for-one swap though, knowing how badly the Oilers have been trying to move Puljujarvi. His stock has really tumbled since last summer when it wasn’t that high to begin with… That fear of losing a draft pick or prospect in a deal is legitimate.

But let's see where this pitch goes.
