Pekka Rinne gives emotional speech during unveiling of his statue.
The long time Nashville Predators goaltender speaks to an assembled crowd of his fans during his big moment today.
It was a momentous day in Nashville on Saturday with the Nashville Predators making a major announcement in front of a large crowd that had gathered in front of Bridgestone Arena.
That's because today is the day that the Predators unveiled the statue they had commissioned in honor of legendary Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne. The Predators had previously retired Rinne's jersey, but they went a step further with the honorifics on Saturday when they unveiled what is quite frankly a beautiful looking statue in his honor.
Here's a look at the moment where Rinne and Scott Wise, the made who sculpted the statue, unveiled it to those in attendance:
And a closer look at the statue itself:
Rinne would admit during his speech that he had not been given the opportunity to see the statue prior to it's unveiling bit it was clear that he was blown away by the work done by Wise, a Predators season ticket holder. Rinne even took the time to thank Wise for his incredible work during what was both an emotional and memorable speech out in front of Bridgestone Arena.
As you would expect Rinne took the time to thank his teammates, the Predators organization, and many of those who helped shape and guide his career in Nashville over many years, but he also thanked the many fans who gathered for his big day and vowed that his statue would watch over them as they walk Broadway out front of Bridgestone Arena. Rinne even joked that it would be great if they installed a camera to show what the statue sees at night time.
Rinne admitted that his nerves got the best of him at one point during his speech, but in spite of his jitters he delivered a fantastic and emotional speech which you can see in the short clip below.
