The Florida Panthers have reached the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 1996. On Wednesday night, they celebrated their sweep of the Carolina Hurricanes and brought back the Prince of Wales trophy in their dressing room.
“We earned that thing, and definitely didn’t do it the easy way. We earned it,” said Matthew Tkachuk, who scored the game-winning goal with 4.9 seconds left, lifting the Panthers past the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 and into the Stanley Cup Final.
When the Panthers rallied back together in the dressing room, head coach Paul Maurice addressed them in what might be a short, yet best speech to motivate his players to go all the way.
This is what the coach said:
This gets me. It’s about the time spent together, fighting and battling hard for the championship. It’s about friendship and hard work. It’s about living something huge together.
Maurice is known for his quirky sense of humour and great delivery when he answered questions from media members in press conferences.
And on top of that, he fight the right words for his players behind closed doors.
I am on the Panthers’ bandwagon!
