Paul Bissonnette takes shot at Mitch Marner during playoff game!
Isn’t he right though?
Ever since the Toronto Maple Leafs were (once again) eliminated in the first round at the hands of the Boston Bruins, forward Mitch Marner has taken heat from fans and media after putting up just three points in the seven-game series.
While some may think the dust had settle on Tuesday night, Marner was shoved back into heat when TNT analyst, podcaster and former NHL player Paul Bissonnette, also a huge Maple Leafs fan, called him out on social during Game 2 of the second round series between the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes:
“Show Marner playoff Guentzel game tape and tell him that’s what 11 should get you. Same size.”
Jake Guentzel, who was acquired by the Hurricanes from the Pittsburgh Penguins for an important boost up front ahead of a long playoff run, has put up three goals and seven points so far into the postseason, in five contests in the first round that saw the New York Islanders eliminated and two games against the Rangers in the second round. Last night, Guentzel recorded two tallies when Bissonnette made his comments, before the contest headed into double overtime. The Blue Shirts came out on top and currently lead the series 2-0.
Marner, who represents nearly $11 million on the Leafs’ top-heavy salary cap, will enter the final year of his contract in October and can sign an extension July 1. Rumours of a potential trade involving the 27-year-old winger have already emerged in Toronto.
If the heat keep burning on Marner during the rest of the postseason, there could be a chance he chooses to waive his no-move clause and be on the move this summer.
