Is this how you fix things for Toronto?

The Toronto Maple Leafs once again failed to hold on to a lead and were defeated 4-2 by the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday, losing four consecutive games in which they had a lead.

After the game, head coach Sheldon Keefe was trending for all the wrong reasons with fans demanding a coaching change behind the bench in Toronto. Former NHL player, hockey analyst and passionate Maple Leafs fan Paul Bissonnette took to X, formerly Twitter, after the game, claiming that Toronto does not have to fire Keefe, but instead suggested a controversial solution to the Maple Leafs’ woes. He wants mutants on the back end, talking about a fiery blue liner like Radko Gudas. That’s how he put it:

“We’re not firing the coach. This can get turned around. Need to make a trade. We should have gotten Zadorov. We need some mutants on the back end. Go get Gudas. Go get Tanev. Just get us some MUTANTS.”

Fans quickly reacted to Biz’s solution by saying that forward Ryan Reaves was expected to be that mutant, but failed at the job. Many still believe Keefe should be let go with a few suggesting Toronto should turn to a guy like Craig Berube, who was dismissed by the St. Louis Blues earlier this season.

There’s been talk about the Maple Leafs upgrading the back end for many seasons and that’s sort of what general manager Brad Treliving attempted to do when he added John Klingberg to the roster. We all know that didn’t work out, so could Biz be right in suggesting players like Gudas or Chris Tanev?

It is no secret that the Maple Leafs have been linked to the Calgary Flames’ defenseman in trade talks, however, the price might be steep to get a player like Tanev ahead of the trade deadline. There is no doubt that Tanev and his hockey IQ would be a greet add to the Maple Leafs, however, I don’t believe his physical tools are anything special… Does he fit as whatever Bissonnette says is a mutant on the back end?

When it comes to Gudas, we all remember how he was linked to the Maple Leafs during free agency this summer and wanted nothing to do with the Canadian team.

Plus, I’m just going to leave this here…
