Patrick Roy basically asks to get fired after admitting to ridiculous mistake in last night’s game!

Trying to pull a John Tortorella? See what happened after the humiliating loss to the Rangers, below:

No one understood what New York Islanders head coach Patrick Roy was attempting to do last night in his team’s 9-2 blowout loss to the Rangers. With his Islanders down 6-2 to the Rangers in the third period, Roy elected to pull starting goaltender Marcus Hogberg in favor of 22 year old minor league call-up Tristan Lennox.

Unfortunately for Lennox he allowed a goal on his first NHL shot against. That was evidently enough of an impression for Roy to immediately pull him from the game.

The controversial move from Roy had fans scratching their heads, with some even claiming he’s trying to get himself fired.
After the game, the Islanders head coach admitted that he made a mistake.

“After the sixth goal, I wanted to give Marcus [Hogberg] a break—mentally, more than anything else,” Roy said. “And I put Lennox in. When I saw the first goal… it’s on me.

“Maybe I should’ve kept [Hogberg in]. The kid didn’t have a chance to practice. I thought it was unfair to put him out there like this. That’s why I put Marcus back in. I didn’t want to expose [Lennox] or put him in a tough spot. The chances we were giving up were two-on-ones and three-on-twos. I didn’t think it was fair for him in his first game.”

But fans still aren’t having it.

Some are not only convinced Roy wants out of New York, but also believe he is pulling a John Tortorella, former head coach of the Flyers, who got fired by Philadelphia after questionable moves and a terrible press conference before he finally got released.

“He’s just trying to get fired at this point, right?” a fan wrote on X.

Is this what’s next for Roy?
