P.K. Subban destroys Kyle Dubas and the Penguins.
P.K. Subban has seen enough and unloads on Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.
Former National Hockey League defenseman P.K. Subban has seen more than he can stomach.
On Saturday, the former Montreal Canadien, Nashville Predator and New Jersey Devil absolutely unloaded on the Penguins organization after the Penguins welcomed captain Sidney Crosby back from his Four Nations Face-Off tournament victory with an abysmal effort against the Washington Capitals. The Penguins would eventually fall by a score of 8-3, a fairly embarrassing margin when you consider the context of their long standing animosity with arguably their greatest rival within the Metropolitan Division.
Subban would begin his rant by making it clear he wasn't bashing the players, and instead directing most of his criticism at general manager Kyle Dubas whom he called out by name.
"Struggling is an understatement," said Subban during ESPN's NHL broadcast. "It's not a slight at the players... this is a poorly built team. They are undersized, undermanned, they're soft in every area."
Subban also spared head coach Mike Sullivan who he feels is also a victim of the poor management from Kyle Dubas.
"It's not about structure," said Subban. "Mike Sullivan and Sidney Crosby are at a huge disadvantage... they got a lot of great players that deserve more, the coach deserves more, he deserves more talent to have to work with here, there's no excuse for this team to be this bad."
Subban again called out the way the team was built, focusing again on management.
"They are set up to fail," said Subban. "The way this team is built is inexcusable."
Subban pointed to Crosby's win at the Four Nations Face-Off while adding that this current Penguins roster is not one that will enable him to succeed.
"This is not enough for Sidney Crosby to do some damage with, he needs a better team around him," said Subban. "Mike Sullivan needs better players to coach."
Subban made it clear that the blame at the end of the day lands firmly at the feet of the organization's general manager in Kyle Dubas.
"I don't see it and for me it's on Kyle Dubas," said Subban. "This is inexcusable for me."
Subban's co-host, NHL legend Mark Messier, echoed his sentiments.
"I think the worst part about it is it's gonna be three years in a row we don't see Sidney Crosby in the playoffs which is really a loss for all of us," agreed Messier.
A bad outing for the Penguins on Saturday and one that seems to have left a bad taste in the mouth of many onlookers.
