Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin has already suffered a neck injury in his career thanks to a vicious cross check from Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn two seasons ago. The injury required season-ending surgery.
Needless to say, Larkin's health is paramount to a potential Red Wings postseason berth, which they are currently only four points outside of as we begin to enter the final stretch of the regular season.
During tonight's game against the Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome, Larkin was briefly forced from the game after taking yet another cross check to the neck, this time from Flames forward Jonathan Huberdeau. Larkin was clearly in pain:
And not surprisingly, there was no penalty called on the play. However, the good news is that Larkin has returned to the bench:
