Oilers forced to sign amateur goalie on 'emergency basis.'

A tough break for the Oilers.

The Edmonton Oilers have been forced to sign an amateur goaltender on a last minute amateur tryout offer just moments before puck drop.

According to an official announcement from the Oilers on Saturday night, the team has signed 25 year old University of Alberta goaltender Matt Berlin after Stuart Skinner was unable to suit up for tonight's game against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Skinner isn't injured but instead has been sidelined by an illness and will be unable to backup Jack Campbell in goal this evening. It seems very unlikely that, barring any injuries, Berlin will get any ice time but crazier things have happened before.
