On Wednesday, the Edmonton Oilers have acquired the rights to 2021 third-round draft pick Jayden Grubbe from the New York Rangers in exchange for a 2023 fifth-round selection.
The 20-year-old, who was the Red Deer Rebels captain in the Western Hockey League for the last three seasons, was selected 65th overall by the Rangers in 2021 but did not sign an entry-level contract with the club. When the Blue Shirts notified teams early of their intentions of not signing Grubbe, they raise interest for the young prospect and clearly the Oilers wanted him.
The young forward from Calgary scored 39 goals and 95 assists for 134 points in 194 career WHL regular season games with the Rebels. He also recorded four goals and 16 assists for 20 points in 22 career WHL post-season appearances.
According to Oilers insider Jason Gregor, the Oilers will sign Grubbe to a contract.
