The failed trade was just reported, and I can say that’s a good thing it did not happen!

The Edmtonon Oilers are red-hot, adding another victory to their team-record 12th straight Thursday night over the Seattle Kraken. With the extra two points, Edmonton has jumped the Los Angeles Kings in the Pacific division race.
On Friday morning, insider Elliotte Friedman revealed how the Oilers may not be in this position if they had pulled the trigger on an aborted trade earlier this season. According to Friedman, there was a trade in place for the Oilers to acquire veteran goalie Jake Allen of the Montreal Canadiens, before it fell through. This is how the insider explained it on the latest edition of the 32 Thought podcast.
“I really do think there was a time this year I thought Jake Allen was going to be in Edmonton, now I’m not convinced that’s going to happen.”
The Oilers may focus on improving the back end ahead of the trade deadline on March 8, while Friedman believes it may be the Kings looking at an upgrade in between the pipes, even taking a look at Allen himself in Montreal.
“I think they will add a goalie, I do. I think they will add a goalie, whether it’s Allen or somebody else, I think they will add a goalie.”
With a goalie carrousel of three netminders in Montreal, the names of Allen, Samuel Montembeault and Cayden Primeau have come up quite a bit as potential trade baits ahead of the deadline. The Canadiens are expected to be sellers ahead of March 8, though it now sounds like they won’t reach a deal with Edmonton for a boost in front of the net.
The Oilers look to make it 13 straight wins Saturday against the Flames in Calgary in an exicting battle of Alberta.
