OHL Championship game gets better attendance than 3 NHL teams' average

And yet the NHL continues to push bad markets.

In case you missed it the Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Windsor Spitfires in Game 7 of the OHL Finals to capture the J. Ross Robertson Cup as OHL champions. As a result, they'll carry on to the Memorial Cup in Saint John, NB to face the Saint John SeaDogs (host),  Shawinigan Cataractes (QMJHL champions) and Edmonton Oil Kings (WHL champions).

And if there's any doubt about southern Ontario's ability to host an additional NHL team, as has been rumoured for years, just check out this:

Nearly 12,000 fans for a junior hockey game on a Wednesday night. You don't think they could pack 15,000 into FirstOntario Centre (formerly the Copps Coliseum) for an NHL game on a nightly basis? To put things in perspective even more, the 11,779 fans in attendance in Hamilton last night is better than the Arizona Coyotes, Buffalo Sabres and Ottawa Senators averaged this season. I'd venture to guess that it's better than the Florida Panthers averaged too, but they pump up their numbers by including free ticket giveaways in their sales numbers.

The Sabres are obviously in a funk, ditto for the Senators but the Coyotes have had awful attendance for decades now and still for some reason the league decides to prop them up. Enough already when we have viable markets like Hamilton, Kansas City, Quebec City and Houston sitting on the sidelines.
