Oddsmakers anger Red Wings fans with latest prediction

The upcoming 2023-24 NHL season is shaping up to perhaps be the most crucial for general manager Steve Yzerman sine he returned to the franchise to take over for the maligned Ken Holland in 2019. He's had to clean up various messes left behind by Holland in the form of bloated contracts and underperforming players, but there has been a growing segment of the fan base who has grown impatient at the playoff drought.

This offseason, Yzerman embarked on a huge shopping spree that brought the likes of J.T. Compher, Daniel Sprong, Klim Kostin, Shayne Gostisbehere, Justin Holl, James Reimer and Alex Lyon to Hockeytown. And just one month ago, he capped the offseason by acquiring native son and two-time 40 goal scorer Alex DeBrincat in a trade with the Ottawa Senators. 

Needless to say, expectations are going to be higher this season for the Red Wings to finally punch through and advance to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2016. But if this prediction from the oddsmakers holds true, there's a far greater chance that their drought will reach eight years.

According to BetOnline, the Red Wings are at -325 to not make the playoffs, and +250 to qualify:
