“Obvious” destination leaked in Jakob Chychrun trade
Could this be the monster move of 2023?

Trade chatter is picking back up when it comes to Arizona Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun and Matt Porter of the Boston Globe believes he knows which team is the obvious fit for the blue liner. While he does point out that a half-dozen teams have Chychrun on their wish list, he believes the Edmonton Oilers are an obvious fit given their desperate need to bolster their left-side depth beyond the overworked Darnell Nurse.
General manager Ken Holland has made it clear that a boost on the back end will need to be added of the postseason, especially if the Oilers are hoping for a longer run this time around.
The issue remains, when we talk about Chychrun, the asking price. It’d make sense that GM Bill Armstrong’s asking price discourages interested teams like the Oilers. Armstrong is rumoured to be asking for two first-round picks plus either a prospect or a young NHL player in a monster trade for Chychrun.
It is also important to note for Edmonton that Chychrun is under contract through 2024-25 at $4.6 million annually and money would need to go back to the desert in the transaction.
Interested teams are likely to wait closer to the March 3rd trade deadline to pull the trigger on a blockbuster move for Chychrun, especially to make sure he remains healthy and productive.
Since his return from injury on November 21st, Chychrun has collected four goals and 17 points in 18 games.
