Noah Gregor reveals what Tom Wilson said to him after brutal high stick

Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson is no stranger to facing discipline from the National Hockey League Department of Player Safety, as he's been suspended and fined multiple times throughout his career that has also included several controversial moments. 

Earlier this week, he found himself running afoul of the NHLDPS after a vicious high stick to the face of Toronto Maple Leafs forward Noah Gregor at Capital One Arena. For his actions, Wilson was offered an in-person hearing, meaning that he could be facing yet another lengthy suspension. 

But according to Gregor, who suffered broken teeth due to the incident, Wilson immediately apologized as he wrapped his arms around Gregor to keep him upright and prevent him from falling to the ice. 

"I don’t think he’s trying to slash a guy in the face," Gregor said. "I don’t think anyone in the league is ever trying to do that. Probably a little reckless with the stick and unfortunately got me, but I’m fine.

"The league will handle it."

Wilson isn't expected suit up for the Capitals tonight, as they host the Carolina Hurricanes. 

The good news is that at least Wilson seemed to immediately recognize the severity of his actions, which didn't appear to be intentional but certainly was an example of being careless with his stick. What kind of punishment should he receive from the NHL?
