To no one's surprise, Nils Hoglander is sticking with the Vancouver Canucks for the next few years.

On Sunday, National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman broke the news that 23 year old forward Nils Hoglander and the Canucks had come to terms on a new 3 year deal at a total value of $9 million. That works out to an average annual value and salary cap hit of $3 million per season for the Canucks.

You have to like this deal for the Canucks when you consider that Hoglander is coming off of what was unquestionably the best season of his NHL career thus far. Hoglander appeared in 80 games for the Canucks last season, the first time he has done so since the Canycks drafted him in 2019, and over that stretch he accumulated 24 goals and 12 assists for a total of 36 points. 24 goals was a career high for Hoglander, eclipsing his previous high of just 13, and the 36 points were also a career high eclipsing his previous total of just 24 in a single season.

The new deal represents a significant raise for Hoglander who is entering the second year of a 2 year deal that carries an average annual value and cap hit of $1.1 million per season.

The Canucks get the deal done early and will likely benefit from a significant discount as a result, especially if Hoglander comes anywhere close to repeating the level of production he showed last season.
