Disaster on Saturday night as an NHL official has seriously injured Nikolaj Ehlers.

The Winnipeg Jets may have just witnessed their playoff aspirations take a serious blow and it has happened in what could very well be the most frustrating way imaginable.

On Saturday night, Jets star forward Nikolaj Ehlers appeared to suffer a very serious looking injury when he was tangled up with a National Hockey League official near the opposing blue line. Ehlers was on the receiving end of a stretch pass and, as he turned to move up the ice with the puck, his skates got tangled with those of NHL linesman James Tobias causing him to twist awkwardly and fall to the ice.

Judging purely by the body language from Ehlers this appeared to be a complete disaster as the Jets forward was in obvious agony, yelling on the ice and twisting in pain. Although we can't know what was wrong with Ehlers judging by the video alone, it seems fair to suggest that he was in a lot of pain.

The most concerning part of this whole scene however was how Ehlers would leave the ice. The Jets forward appeared entirely unable to move under his own power and had to quite literally be dragged up to his skates by a pair of teammates. Even then Ehlers appeared to be unable to move under his own power, with the teammates dragging him across the ice and all the way to the Jets bench.

Once Ehlers reached the bench things weren't any better, with Ehlers desperately grabbing at anything within reach to help support his own weight.

A terrible situation for the Jets and for Ehlers, especially with the Stanley Cup playoffs right around the corner.
