Star rookie Connor Bedard scored his 20th goal and added four assists to lead the Chicago Blackhawks past the Anaheim Ducks 7-2 on Tuesday night. Bedard’s five points in a game tied a Blackhawks record for a rookie and, as he sat on the bench, you could tell the kid fell good.
His teammate and close friend Nick Foligno also put up four assists, including one by holding the puck in the Anaheim zone, and making a play that led to Bedard’s score.
On the bench afterwards, the mic caught a hilarious conversation between Foligno and Bedard, with the veteran forward claiming he’s got so much more to teach the young superstar, hinting that he’ll need a longer contract in Chicago to do so.
“There’s so much to teach you I don’t have enough contract time. I’m gonna have to stay in Chicago like five more years after I retire.”
You can tell how much Foligno loves to play with a kid as talented as Bedard, while also being able to teach him about the grind of the game at the NHL level. While the Blackhawks aren’t in the postseason this year, this is a huge win for the team and both Foligno and Bedard to have this relationship that only benefits the club.
The game got chaotic in the middle of the last frame when Hawks goalie Petr Mrazek decided to get into the action and take a run at Ducks defenseman Radko Gudas. Fans got to see a line brawl with Ducks goaltender John Gibson crossing the red line and stripping his gear off so that he can go toe to toe with Mrazek.
