Sometimes the rat gets away with the cheese, but sometimes he gets caught in the trap.

Veteran National Hockey League forward Nick Cousins has quickly become one of the most reviled players in the entire league, with former NHL player Kevin Bieksa even publicly describing him as a "rat," and it isn't because he lacks skill on the ice but rather due to the fact that he often takes liberties with the health and well being of his opponents.

On Saturday night, Cousins was up to his usual tricks but unfortunately for the controversial Ottawa Senators forward, the man he was targeting was more than ready for him.

In a rather embarrassing moment for Cousins, he would attempt to deliver a hit from behind on Montreal Canadiens enforcer Arber Xhekaj, after Xhekaj had already made his own physical presence known in the early moments of the game, but Xhekaj had eyes in the back of his head. In fact you might even argue that Xhekaj was hyper aware of his surroundings because of the fact that Cousins was out on the ice, but whatever the reason he was more than ready for the hit from behind.

Instead of Cousins driving Xhekaj dangerously into the boards, Xhekaj would launch himself backwards into the oncoming Cousins, causing Cousins to bounce off of his body in comedic fashion. Cousins was launched up into the air and was almost sideways at a 90 degree angle at one point before crashing to the ice.

Cousins appeared to be fine and was able to get up from the reverse hit and skate away under his own power, but he may have suffered a bruised ego on the play.
