NHL slaps Tony DeAngelo with multi-game suspension

Controversial Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Tony DeAngelo was assessed a five minute major along with a game misconduct during last night's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning after he speared Bolts forward Corey Perry with his stick, immediately kicking off a dog pile. 

DeAngelo continued to jaw at Perry and the rest of the Lightning players before eventually heading down the tunnel towards the dressing room while also making a gesture at the fans in the stands at Amalie Arena. Because of his misconduct, it automatically triggered a hearing from the National Hockey League Department of Player Safety. The meeting has concluded, and minutes ago, they issued their ruling. 

DeAngelo has been suspended for the next two games, meaning he'll miss facing his former Carolina Hurricanes teammates tomorrow as well as the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.

This will not be the first time that DeAngelo has been suspended by the NHL. During the 2016-17 NHL season while a member of the Arizona Coyotes, he was suspended for three games for verbally abusing linesman David Brisebois.

He was also suspended on a pair of occasions while playing for the Sarnia Sting of the OHL in 2014 for violations of their League policy.
