Toronto in the doghouse.

Last night’s game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Tampa Bay Lightning was all over the place. The game also involved nine goals, with Tampa Bay scoring eight in an 8-1-beating.
The 60-minute sh*t show was full of dirty hits and prompted enforcers Pat Maroon and Wayne Simmonds to get involved in a scrum. The two got into a heating argument in the first period, as Maroon was heard calling Simmonds” soft.” The two of them also got into a fight late in the second, as they both dropped their gloves. At the end of the game, Leafs’ Kyle Clifford even whacked Corey Perry on the head with his stick.
Clifford was in fact punished by the NHL’s Safety Department for his actions on Friday. He was fined $2,500, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for High-sticking Perry.
He is not the only Maple Leafs player having to pay up though. During the game, Simmonds was seen charging Lightning defenseman Mikhail Sergachev, but no call was made on the play.
However, the league reviewed it and fined Simmonds $2,250, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Charging Sergachev.
Maple Leafs fans will be upset to find out that the NHL did not punish Sergachev for his sucker punch at the back of the head of Michael Bunting. As both players battled in front of the Lightning goal crease, Sergachev sucker punched Bunting right in the head, causing him to fall. TSN picked up on the dirty move and couldn’t understand why no penalty was called on the play. It might have just seemed to the officials that the Russian defenseman was protecting his goalie by pushing Bunting, though it is clear from this video that he sucker punched him right at the back of the head.
Sergachev was not only not penalized for the play, but is getting off free of all charges.
Pay up Toronto…
